Mr. Harrison was born and raised in Anderson, Indiana. He is a 1987 graduate of the University of South Florida and a 1990 graduate of the University of Florida College of Law. Shawn is the founder and CEO of Shawn Harrison Associates. Previously Shawn was a shareholder in the Tampa firm of Wetherington, Hamilton, & Harrison, P.A. Shawn is also the founder of Medical Collection Group, LLC, a background and asset screening firm serving the long term care industry. He is a past recipient of the Tampa Bay Business Journal's "40 under 40" award, an annual recognition of Tampa Bay's brightest and most successful young business professionals, and a five time recipient of the USF "FAST 56" award, given annually to the 56 fastest growing Bull owned businesses in the world. Shawn has achieved the highest recognition of professional competence and ethics for attorneys given, the prestigious "AV" rating by Martindale- Hubbell. Mr. Harrison is a frequent national guest speaker on long term care issues.
Mr. Harrison has a long history of elected service to his community. From 1996-1998 he served as Chairman of the Tampa Palms Community Development District. In 1999 he was elected to the Tampa City Council, where he served eight years, a portion of that as Chairman Pro-Tem. He also served as Chairman of the Hillsborough County Metropolitan Organization for Transportation from 2004-2007. In 2007 he was appointed by Governor Charlie Crist to the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority, where he served until 2010, upon his election to the Florida House of Representatives, where he served until 2018. Shawn was named the 2012 Florida Fraternal Order of Police Legislator of the Year and the 2016 Florida Assisted Living Federation Legislator of the Year. He serves as a Trustee of Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park and is a member of the USF Order of the Golden Brahman.
